Dilly Seed Library

Collect and donate free seeds at Wollondilly Library, Picton, or the Mobile Library. The Dilly Seed Library is a community-grown seed-sharing collection designed to bring people together through a love of gardening. The Seed Library relies on your donations, so we are always happy to receive seeds that you’d love to share with the community.

This project will help native plants thrive, preserve heritage varieties of produce, encourage more bees in Wollondilly through a wider variety of flowers, strengthen our local biodiversity, and promote connections across the Shire from people who might never have crossed paths without taking part in the Seed Library.

This project is open to people of any age, and is a great way for people to connect and learn across the community.

New to seed gathering and storage?

Here’s a short tutorial with information you’ll need to get started.

How it Works

Collect: If you’re a Library member, take some free seeds from the Seed Library located at Picton, or our Mobile Library, and donate some in return if possible.

Donate: If you choose to donate seeds, please make sure they are cleaned and dried, in good condition, and aren’t weeds. You can place them in one of our envelopes and fill out the information slip with the seed type and variety, when and where they were harvested, when to plant, and your name. Then it’s placed in our Seed Library for someone else to borrow and grow!

Connect: When your seeds have grown, consider taking a picture to share on social media, tagging Wollondilly Library, or send us an email with photos we can post on your behalf. Make sure to include the name of the person whose seeds you grew too – they might just spot your plants when viewing our page (and vice versa), which is a great way to connect our community.

Share: Consider gathering seeds from plants you’ve grown and donating them back to the Library so everyone has a chance to share and borrow, which will help strengthen our local biodiversity, create more chances for people to learn about the life cycle of plants, and provide access to something that sparks joy.
